never understood the "911 is a VW" thing. maybe now with the 991 being a VAG product. but before... I mean, nobody claims a Nissan GT-R is a Datsun Bluebird. it just seems like a hater troll that kind of backfires because old school VW Beetles are actually cool cars.

I use it more like a light-hearted joke thing, loving old 911s but liking Beetles. The 911 was a sporty evolution of the Beetle in a way, and its shape reminds many of the Beetle. I think I got it from Top Gear, except Clarkson uses it as more of an insult. Yes, there will be people who will call your R33 Skyline a Datsun, but Datsuns are cool anyway.
